The Mega Auction – New times, New teams

The Indian Premier League (Or IPL) is one of the leading leagues in the world of cricket. With the increase in viewers and players, this league has boomed over the past decade and with its rise, the BCCI  President Sourav Ganguly has announced that there will be some massive changes in the functioning of the League. These changes will commence with the introduction of a much-awaited event- The Mega Auction.

Mr. Ganguly, a former Indian cricketer himself, has announced the introduction of two new teams (who remain unnamed) to the League. This is in addition to the present ten teams.

Changes in RTM (Right to Match) and retention policy include a retention of a maximum of three players by franchises. Teams can use RTM cards to fetch two more players from the previous squad. If any franchise opts to retain only two players in the pre-auction then they can use the RTM feature on a maximum of three players. With the inflation in world-wide economies, franchises will be allotted a higher budget as well. There is also talk of a change in the number of players that each team has. As of now, there are no such details out from the BCCI but fans all over the country hope that the IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be somewhere between the Month of December 2021 or January 2022.

Mr. Ganguly when asked to comment on the upcoming Mega Auction said, “We haven’t decided anything yet. Let this season conclude, we will take a call.”

With the pandemic in its second stages, the future is bleak, and the chances of the Auction and upcoming changes in the IPL occurring are at an all-time low. While this might be a blow for all the fans looking forward to this intriguing phase of the IPL, precautions to ensure the safety of the people must be taken. The occurrence of the auction, while definite, is most likely to occur during the third phase of the pandemic, predicted to be post-March 2020. Fans, players, and franchise owners look forward in anticipation of these prophetic changes in the IPL.
